Selkirk bounced back from last week’s defeat at Drummond Trinity with a comprehensive victory over Leith FAB at Philiphaugh.
Skipper Rory Banks won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. What followed was nothing less than a rout as the Leithers were dismissed for just 38.
Opening bowler Kenny Paterson led the way, claiming four wickets for just 14 runs, supported by Jordan Reid, who, in addition to pouching a brace of catches, took 3/13. Greg Fenton mopped up the tail to ensure that only a batting performance of truly calamitous proportions could deny the Souters victory.
Though Fenton and Stuart Skeldon both fell in the latter stages of a victory charge that scarcely merited being considered a “chase” in the traditional sense of the term, Selkirk’s victory was never in doubt as the home side sauntered to an easy win.
As the season enters its second half, Selkirk remain in fourth place in Division Three of the East of Scotland league.
