West Linton primary has picked up Badmintonscotland’s School of the Month Award for February, in recognition of its programme.
The Peebleshire school has shown dedication and commitment, not only to giving pupils an opportunity to participate in the sport, but also to signpost players down a pathway into club badminton, should they wish to continue.
Despite strains on facilities and equipment at the school, sessions are run for pupils in Primary 4 and up, and are extremely well-attended. It is these sessions that have provided many pupils with a taste for the sport that has developed into pupils reaching the Borders squad level, and even the national set-ups.
All of this activity could not happen without the efforts of Lily Stenhouse, who works at the school and has almost single-handedly run the badminton activity at West Linton primary over the years.
