Selkirk shooters take aim in Lauder

MEMBERS of Selkirk Rifle Club attended the Border Open shoot at Lauder on Sunday and shot well.

The course of fire was 40 shots at 50 yards and 100 shots at 100 yards.

In the A Class Bill Vaughan came second while Robert Beale was first and Darren Brown (assisted by Ettrick & Lauderdale sports council) was second in the B Class.

Darren also won the Junior Championship, where he was up against fellow Scotland squad members.

Bill Vaughan, Eric Brown, Robert Beale and Darren Brown all qualified for the 10-man Open Championship final. The course of fire for the final was 40 shots at 100 yards and Bill Vaughan finished first and Eric Brown third.

Medals were also presented to Selkirk members Bill Vaughan and Eric Brown to recognise their achievement of being members of the Scottish Southern County team which won the Sextette Championship at the Scottish Open shoot in Dumfries.

In the British Legion National Championships, Eric Brown and Ron Chapman were part of the Borders three-man team and gold medals are to be presented at a later date.
