Selkirk threw away a fantastic opportunity on Saturday, with a woeful batting performance following a decent show in the field.
Up against Carlton 3rds at the Meadows, the Souters dismissed the home side for just 117 runs, putting them in the mix.
Despite missing a clutch of regulars, Selkirk bowled and fielded excellently. Jordan Reid led by example and was given fine support by John Everitt, Ewen Robbie and David Gardiner.
But a complete disaster with the bat saw them sent back to the clubhouse for a grand total of 27 runs. Only one batsman, skipper Rory Banks, reached double figures as no fewer than six Selkirk batsmen, including opener Everitt – who was dispatched first bowl – were dismissed without troubling the scorers.
The Souters return to Edinburgh this week to face Murrayfield DAFS, knowing that they most probably need to win all their remaining fixtures to have any chance of promotion ... and that will require greater application than was seen last Saturday.
