HAVING proved a great success among its small private entry over the last two years, the Melrose Road Race will be open to the public for the 2012 event which takes place on Sunday August 26 at 11am.
The 13.1km race will start at the former Melrose railway station, heading up Boglie Road towards Eildon Village and Bowden, before heading towards the BGH and back to the station for a fast finish.
There are hills involved, but organisers feel the route is very rewarding with some lovely views along the way.
The Melrose Rotary Club has volunteered for marshalling duties along the route and also at the water station in Bowden, the half-way point in the race.
In return, the Rotary Club will receive a cash donation from the profits of this event for them to put towards a local charity of their choice.
Registration will take place in the Corn Exchange in Melrose where the runners will pick up their race numbers and have a quick safety briefing before being walked to the start/finish line.
Awards will be presented for first male and first female, as well as a few spot prizes, at the Corn Exchange after the race.
Closing date for entries is August 12. For more information and to enter, visit http://melroserace2012.tumblr.com/
