It was another busy time for Borders badminton with 45 players participating in the region’s Primary Schools Championships at Earlston High School Games Hall on Saturday, February 14.
Schools from throughout the Borders were represented, with seven boys’ pools and three girls’ pools, and 100 games taking place.
There were some very spirited performances, from high-level Scottish squad players to ultimate novices playing in their first competition.
The boys’ winner was Isaac Weir (Duns PS), following the retirement of Tyler Smith (Duns PS) midway through the third end of the final. Tyler won the first game 21-17 and Isaac took the second end 21-17.
In the girls’ competition, Jessica Mitchell (Kingsland PS) won the final against Sophie Younger (Edenside PS) 21-14, 21-18.
Thanks were given to sponsors Topling Biomass Systems, Eshiels Gundogs and Greenvale AP for their support this season.
Christine Wylie, Borders Badminton Group chairperson, thanked tournament sponsors Kaimburn Joinery & Building Services and Harry Turnbull Ltd, together with coaches, committee members, families and parents, who helped make the event run smoothly. BSL active school team also helped with the circulation of entry forms and information.
