Pressure pays off for Kelso

Kelso Ladies 3

Edinburgh University III 2

KELSO had a strong side out to play second-placed Edinburgh Uni thirds.

Some good attacking play down both sides of the field created attacking opportunities for the Tweedsiders.

Kirsty Hope’s great individual skill down the right side of the pitch allowed her to play a great ball into the circle for Suzanne Fleming to deflect it high into the students’ net.

But Uni picked up the tempo and caught Kelso on the back foot to equalise. Both sides had plenty of opportunities to take the lead before half-time, some well-worked penalty corners at either end producing superb defending and goalkeeping to keep the scores level at the break.

The second half started as the first finished, with both sides pushing for that second goal.

Kelso continued to pressurise the young Edinburgh team and their hard work paid off when they were awarded a penalty corner.

Dawn Paxton passed out to Emma Pate who slipped the ball to Natasha Mclaren. The latter fired the ball past the Edinburgh keeper to give the Tweedsiders a deserved lead.

Kelso were unlucky not to get a third minutes later through Kirsty Hope.

But it was the visitors who scored next when keeper Tamara Cook saved well, but was unlucky with the rebound which hit the back of the net.

With Kim Curruthers in fine form, Kelso pushed for a winner and with 10 minutes to go they were rewarded with another penalty corner. Emma Pate made no mistake in finding the back of the goal.
