THE Aitken Turnbull Border League season was heralded last weekend with a day-long series of matches played at Hawick High School.
Five teams are contesting the Under-13 title this year, with all four Borders clubs represented – Berwickshire, Earlston, Hawick (two teams) and Peebles.
The league is played in a round-robin format over four playdays.
Four of these teams were in action at the weekend, with Peebles getting off to a flying start in their attempt to retain the title, securing a 34–7 win over Berwickshire.
The second tie, featuring Hawick A against Earlston, was a closer affair, with the Teries making the most of their home advantage to run out 15–4 victors.
The Under-15 league also got going, with eight sides in contention for the championship and plate trophies. Teams play in two pools of four, followed by semi-finals and finals. Peebles A started well with a convincing 54–4 win over their younger rivals, Earlston B.
Scores of a further two Under-15 matches are still to be confirmed, following a request for clarity from Border Netball over players fielded in A and B outfits.
