No luck for Bossie

ON A potentially submarine wicket, made playable by the magic of the St Boswells ground staff, the Villagers were put into bat by an ominously strong-looking Freuchie 2nds, sporting at handful of first team players and a determination borne of experience in the East Leagues.

The home team took the field with St Lucian Cletus Mathurin partnering Elliot Ruthven. The experience of Freuchie soon told, following a promising opening partnership, and wickets started falling with alarming regularity.

Only young Ruthven managed a respectable score in the St Boswells innings, with a creditable 35 in as many overs, and while there was some resistance from captain Stephen Broom and Elliot Hunter they were skittled for 104 in just 44.3 wet overs.

As they took the field and took the game to the visitors with equally accurate bowling from both ends, Mathurin quickly showed his class with an almost unplayable spell, matched by Scott Turnbull and the rest of the seam attack, but it was new signing Ally Prabhakar who made the greatest impression, with three LBWs that threatened an upset.

Sadly, 104 was never going to be a defendable total, and Freuchie overcame the Borderers with a handful of impressive sixes that showed what can be done on The Green whenever a loose ball comes your way.
