Last weekend the deciding match in the Aitken Turnbull U13 Border Netball League was played.
Since October five U13 teams from across the Borders have battled it out to become league champions with the league days played in Hawick, Earlston and Duns before arriving at Peebles.
In the reckoning for the title were Hawick A, Earlston and Peebles, and last weekend’s match brought Peebles and Hawick A head-to-head.
With strong partisan support for Peebles, the home team dominated the match from the start, leaving Hawick little room for attack. Peebles flow was evident, led by versatile captain Abbie Sorrell playing Goal Attack, Wing Attack and Centre in different quarters. Not even an ankle injury sustained by regular Goal Keeper Emma Latto threw the team, with Imogen Lewis ably stepping in to cover in defence.
The fluent performance provided Peebles with the scoreline they required and a win over Hawick A to secure the title for Peebles for the sixth year in succession. Previous points earned gave Earlston the runners-up spot, with Hawick A picking up third place.
Peebles U13s: Abbie Sorrell (Capt), Emma Latto (Vice Capt), Ruby Finn, Imogen Lewis, Hannah Little, Lily Robertson, Molly Saxon, Eleanor Smith, Melissa Watts, Emily Wilson.
