Langholm beat Threlkeld

by five wkts

Langholm got back to winning ways in the Eden Valley Cricket League with a victory at Threlkeld last Saturday, writes John Smith.

The hosts got off to a fine start and reached 46 before Meddings was caught by Chris Stewart off Steve Johnstone for 20. Jefferson was caught in the slips by Graham Park off Duncan Elliott for 33.

Price launched an onslaught on the Langholm bowlers with eight sixes and two fours, but was eventually caught behind by Gregor Masterton off Park for 66. Robinson (15) was caught by Jack Pool off the bowling of Andrew Bell and suddenly things crumbled for the home side with several batsmen failing to score, and Threlkeld finished all out on 153.

In the Langholm bowling, Park had 3 for 13 and Bell 3 for 16.

Langholm got off to a reasonable start and reached 17 before Bell (9) was clean-bowled by Dunn. Ross Rae then had to retire injured, but Elliott and Stewart carried the score to 79 before the latter was caught by Cowper for 26.

It was 103 for 3 when Park (7) was caught, and Elliott reached 62 before being bowled by Price with the score 142. Masterton (18) and Johnstone carried Langholm to the brink of victory before the former was dismissed. With eight balls left Johnstone hit the winner for Langholm.

That was Threlkeld’s first home match since they were flooded three years ago and had to carry out major work and it was the first time Langholm had played at the venue.
