A glorious sunny afternoon welcomed the 69 runners who came from far and wide to enjoy the challenges of the Eildon Three Hills Race on Saturday.
First runner home was young Ian Gilmore from Carnethy Hill Racing Club, clocking his first win in 38 minutes and 6 seconds, and holding off second-placed George Foster from Dundee Hawkhill (38.33) by almost half a minute. Third over the line was Ian Stewart from Westerlands in 38.57.
The standout performance of the day, however, came from Louise Mercer, a former Gala Harrier now competing for Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds, who smashed the ladies’ course record in a stunning time of 40 minutes and 22 seconds, seven minutes ahead of her female challengers and sixth-placed athlete overall.
Michael Haywood took the prize for the first local runner home in an impressive 43.16. Full results can be found on the Gala Harriers website. Thanks were given to race organiser Paul Morris and his many helpers.
