Best moment in sport so far: Winning a national gold medal at the 2011 Scottish Nationals for the 4 x 200m free relay as it felt amazing standing on the podium as part of the Borders team.

Aims for the next 12 months: I am going to train my hardest this year to achieve better times in my freestyle sprint events.

How does the ASP help you most: Strength and conditioning twice a week with Stuart Paton in Selkirk and Galashiels, and physiotherapy when needed.

Who in sport most inspires you: Shaun White, an American professional snowboarder and skateboarder, and Ryan Lochte, the American swimmer.

FavOURITE TV sporting moment of all time: Watching Michael Phelps win his eighth gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing as it was such a close race and very exciting as he fought for the last medal.

Best thing about your sport: The feeling of being totally in control of everything.

... but dislike: Getting up at 4.30am to go to training five mornings a week.

If not in this sport, would like to compete in: Something extreme like surfing or snowboarding.

Usual pre-competition meal: Anything full of carbs, such as pasta.

Food dislikes: Mayonnaise and tomato ketchup.

Best motivational song or track: Enter Shikari/Juggernauts.

... but turn off/leave the room to: Hey Baby by DJ Otzi – absolutely hate that song!

Competition superstition or odd routine: I always tap my goggles five times for luck before getting onto the block.

When not competing or training I like to: Chill out with my friends, go shopping or sleep.
