Best moment in sport so far: UK Under-20 Mountain Running Championships 2011, leading to selection for Great Britain in the European Under-20 Mountain Running Championships.
Aims for the next 12 months: Gain GB selection for Under-20 European and World Mountain Running Championships. Compete in longer senior level races now that I am eligible.
How does the ASP help you most: Podiatry service, which is very helpful for my inappropriate running feet! ASP has also helped with developing a strength and conditioning programme suited to me.
Who in sport most inspires you: There are a number of people who have inspired me through overcoming major injuries or obstacles in their career, but stay positive and focused to achieve their goals.
FavOURITE sporting moment of all time: Mo Farah just missing out on gold in the 10,000m at the World Championships in 2011, but coming back a few days later to take the gold in the 5,000m.
Best thing about your sport: Every race is different – the course, the terrain and scenery. The great sense of achievement I get when I reach the summit after a difficult ascent, then the freedom of coming down. I have also met a wide variety of people of different ages from all over the country and have made many good friends. There is a real sense of camaraderie and a supportive atmosphere. And, of course, winning is always a bonus.
... but dislike: Doing hill reps in the cold wind and rain on my own. Being told to rest and recover (not good at sitting still) especially when it means having to stand in the freezing cold Tweed!
If not in this sport, would like to compete in: I enjoy playing many sports, but have always liked hockey. I think it is because it is a team sport, but there are advantages and disadvantages to this.
Usual pre-competition meal: The night before would include pasta or rice. I eat very little on the day of the race – but make up for it after.
Food dislikes: Nothing, except I don’t eat meat or fish.
Best motivational song or track: Anything that has a good rhythm and has an upbeat tempo.
... but turn off/leave the room to: Rap, or anything my dad puts on.
Competition superstition or odd routine: Use the same safety pins for my number and eat the same food three hours 15 minutes before.
When not competing or training I like to: Don’t have much time for anything else except uni work, but like seeing friends and walking our two dogs – an Airedale and a daschund.
