LAST Friday, members of Kelso Swimming Club took part in one of their most eminent events of the season.
Swam for by members 12 years and over, and in the form of a 200m individual medley, the Rodger McKay trophy was donated to the club by Mrs Margaret McKay and this year was won my Morgan Anderson, who was presented with the trophy by Mrs McKay herself, pictured left.
Mrs McKay is a true ambassador of the club. She, along with her late husband Rodger, instigated the formation of the club at the pool along with other users way back in 1973. For pool manager Jim Currie it was a great honour to introduce Mrs McKay to the current members of the club, which includes East District, Scottish and national finalists.
He told TheSouthern: “Ever since Margaret reinstated Kelso Swimming club more than 35 years ago she has been a pillar in the centre, or should we say a brick, since it was Margaret who helped build the very foundations that have made the club such a success.”
“Mrs McKay spoke to all the swimmers from her heart, instilling her pride and passion in the art of swimming, something the coaches and children will cherish forever.”
