Longbow archery season draws to a close

THE last shoot of the Ettrick Forest Archers calendar takes place on Sunday at Thirladean.

The name of the game is the combined competition where members are tested on their prowess in all of the club’s disciplines – clout, target and wand.

As the clocks go back this weekend, the first arrows will fly at 10am so that the good light lasts until the end.

The annual Club Championship quaichs and cups will also be presented on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Sunday past saw the archers take part in the final monthly double clout shoot.

And with the rain mostly holding off, and wind at a minimum, the conditions were reflected in the scores – junior Sam Mackay’s massive total, which included four clouts, two of which were on the same end, is worthy of mention. The gents are shaking in their shoes as young Sam will shoot at 180yds with the seniors next year.
