St Boswells Tennis Club’s annual club championships came to a conclusion on Saturday at finals day.
Fortunately the weather was ideal, both for players and spectators, and a thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all.
In the ladies singles Claire Townsend, runner-up in 2014, went one better and took the title, defeating Lucy Tile 6-2 6-0.
The men’s singles title was retained by Gary Lemmon, but only thanks to a spirited comeback from a set down against Will Blair, with Lemmon triumphing 2-6 7-5 10-8.
Despite the disappointment of losing the singles final, Blair went straight back on to take the honours in the mixed doubles with partner Jenell Arnott. They defeated Heather Taylor and Billy Anderson 6-2 4-6 10-6.
Anderson himself had already played earlier in the day, retaining the men’s doubles trophy alongside Max Playfer with a 6-2 6-4 win over Matt Tile and Bruce Low.
In a hard fought ladies doubles final the mothers of the young men’s singles finalists, Toni Lemmon and Pat Blair, overcame Heather Taylor and Alenka Aird 6-1 6-4.
