A NEW star was born on Sunday at Braidwood.
Having only taken up clay shooting over the last couple of years, Keith Learmonth (Heriot) has made steady progress through the ranks. This week, he shot his best yet to win Christianne’s Crystal Trophy outright and a coveted Braidwood Green Hat into the bargain.
Only one point adrift on 34 ex-40, Stuart Dawson (Bedlington) was one of the first to congratulate him on his performance.
The second layout fell to Billy Williamson (Linlithgowbridge) who took the lead on 35 again. This time it was Struan Brodie (Denholm) one adrift on 34 in runner-up slot.
The change in fortunes blew the aggregate position wide open. When total scores were tallied it was Dawson’s consistency that secured him the title for the day with his overall score of 67.
Learmonth and Robert Bruce (Broxburn) were right there on 66, while Williamson finished on 64.
The next competition at Braidwood is on Sunday, October 9, when the October Quaich is up for grabs. This time, Stuart Donaldson is the defending gun. Entries close at 12.30pm. All welcome.
