Langholm remain in promotion hunt

Langholm beat Appleby III by 10 wickets

LANGHOLM gained an easy win on the artificial wicket at the Castleholm last Saturday, with the outfield very soft after heavy rain leading up to the match.

It dried up just before start time, and on opening the batting, Appleby made a total of 71.

Langholm had little trouble and passed the visitors’ total with the openers still at the wicket.

Stainton beat Irthing Vale and are one point clear in division three of the Eden Valley League, with a match in hand, and Langholm are still in the second promotion place with two matches left to play.

Appleby reached 55 for 4, which in the conditions was not too bad, but the next four wickets fell for only three runs and it was 58 for 8.

Errington was top scorer for the visitors with 21 and they were all out for 71 in 35 overs.

In the Langholm bowling Duncan Elliott finished with 3 for 11.

Home openers Ben Maxwell (39) and Gregor Masterton (17) secured victory in the 20th over, finishing on a total of 72.
