Langholm edge points with a draw in season finale

It was a tight finish in the last match of the season for Langholm Cricket Club, who ended with a winning draw over Carlisle Academy at the Castleholm.

Langholm were all out for 120 in the 40 overs and Carlisle finished on 91 for 9 to get a point.

Skipper Duncan Elliott and Graham Park made a good start to the batting for Langholm and reached 51 in 15 overs, before Park was bowled by Bell for 22. Things then went wrong and Jason Hall (2) was quickly dismissed, as was Gregor Park for a duck. Elliott was then caught after a good knock of 31 and it was 61 for 4, with four wickets going for only 10 runs.

Chris Tait and Andrew Paisley (10) carried the score to 74 before the latter was dismissed. Tait then fell after a useful 20 and it was 106 for 6.

Steven Johnstone and John Bell quickly departed and it was 112 for 8. Neil Fletcher was bowled and David Pool was stumped in the last ball of the innings and with Jack Pool not out, Langholm were dismissed for 120.

Good home bowling by Johnstone and Graham Park saw Carlisle only get 14 runs in the first 11 overs. A couple of good catches by Tait off the bowling of Johnstone and Paisley had the visitors on 15 for 2, and they went to 33 for 4 after 30 overs. Things were looking good for the hosts with Carlisle on 42 for 7, but Nair (12) and Walker settled in and it was 59 before the former was out. Wall and Griffen were dismissed to make it 82 for 9. The Carlisle target for a point was 90 and they made 91 in the allotted overs. In the home bowling, Pool had 3 for 21 and Paisley 3 for 38. The seven points Langholm secured means they finished seventh in division one of the Eden Valley league.
