KYDS competition is animal magic

KYDS (Kelso Youth Development Squad) held a fun hockey tournament last month at Berwickshire High School.

Teams came from as far away as Lincolnshire to participate in the event, which was run with an animal theme, and in two age groups – under-14s and under-16s.

Edinburgh club Cala won the U16s, with Kelso’s first team runners-up, and in a highly-competitive U14 competition, Eskvale went on to win on goal difference from Cala Blues.

The day was a great success, but would not have been able to go ahead without the help of parents who manned the stalls, the umpires and the coaches who brought the teams along, especially Angela and the Lincoln girls.

KYDS also had a special visitor in Lorraine Tait, representing The Weir Charitable Trust, which has kindly given the group a £1,300 grant to buy goalkeeping kit, balls, cones and sticks.

Training resumes on August 22 at Berwickshire High and at Earlston HS and Eyemouth HS on August 29.
