The final action in the Border League for 2015 is now complete after the Gala green played host to the Knock Out Cup and Plate finals.
After the previous date was washed out it was a relief to get a dry day.
The Knock Out Plate final for B sides was contested between Wilton and Kelso, the top two sides in this year’s Border Bowling Association B League.
Wilton made the better start but Kelso fought back and with just a few ends left it was finely balanced. A strong 5, 2, 3 finish by the R. Redmond skipped rink swung the match in Wilton’s favour and they went on to win by 10 shots.
Rink scores: B. Jaffray 13 M. Playfair 13; K. Lyle 13 J. Coleman 19; R. Redmond 23 J. Utterson 7; D. Smyth 11 D. Souter 11.
Final result: Wilton B 60 Kelso B 50
The Knock Out Cup final then took centre stage with Jedburgh taking on Abbotsford, who were looking for their first victory in nine final appearances.
Both teams finished in the top half of the league so a close game was anticipated. This proved to be the case with both teams winning two of the contests and drawing one. The lead swung back and forth until the 12 end mark when Jedburgh then took control of the game and custody of the Cup by just seven shots.
Rink scores: D. Munro 18 K. Johnstone 10; G. Nagle 16 C. Hancock 8; J. Taylor 12 K. Campbell 12; N. Hill 12 G. Bowers 17; E. Lindores 10 A. Hancock 14.
Final result: Jedburgh 68 Abbotsford 61.
In between the finals League President Paul Greaves invited league sponsor David Lightbody (Painter & Decorator) to present the various league winners with their trophies and thanked him for his continued support of the league. Melrose were Border League Champions, Ancrum won Division 2, Wilton B won the B League and Earlston/Melrose topped the Senior League. Paul also thanked Belhaven for additional sponsorship.
The League AGM will be held on Tuesday, October 27 in Abbotsford BC.
