A Borders-boosted South of Scotland hockey squad marched up to Perth and swept all before them to take an overall win at the annual Hockey Masters Inter District Tournament.
Hosted by Midlands at Kilgraston School, teams travelled from all over Scotland to challenge for the title.
Eight districts took part in the tournament and South captain Janet Jack lead her ‘Southettes’ onto the pitch for their first game against the hosts in confident mode.
South got off to a fantastic start with Shirley Grey scoring for a 1-0 win and Laura McLean doing likewise against North to gain the same scoreline.
Confidence was starting to build and there was a good positive feeling in the team when they took to the pitch to play South West. The Borders ladies played some nice, attacking hockey with great distribution from midfield, but were unlucky not to score and had to be satisfied with a 0-0 draw.
South started their fourth game with a change in formation, and with the formidable force of Jackie Wilson up front and Moira Anderson switching to defence, were able to power to a 2-0 victory, Wilson scoring both goals.
Next up was East, who fielded a very strong team, but halfway through McLean scored a fantastic goal after a solo run from just over the halfway line and another 1-0 win was recorded. The final game was played against Central and South were determined to keep their scoresheet intact. The team’s formation was changed again, with Gray moving to striker. She came up trumps as she was able to score the only goal of the match. South held on to their unbeaten record and were declared overall winners.
