It’s bowls, but not as we know it

ONE of the biggest events on the Selkirk sporting calendar is set to kick-off in the town tonight.

Yes, it’s the opening round of the Selkirk Bowling Club Pub League where the tussle for the trophy is only equalled by the battle for the booby prize (in miniature whisky form).

Eight teams will fight it out over seven weeks, with most gunning for the Masons, who have retained the title for the last three years. All the action starts at 7pm.

Tonight’s fixtures: Southern Reporter v Babychams; Merchant Company v Tory Club; Fleece v Town Arms; Masons v Ex-Standard Bearers.
