In only their second season playing in the Under 16 East Girls District League Fjordhus Reivers have been crowned Champions after a convincing victory over Inverleith.

Reivers put on a master class of hockey at Edinburgh Academy with home and away supporters showing their appreciation to excellent play.

Under 16s (Performance) coach Pippa Bell told The Southern: “Hard work, dedication, determination and an unrivalled team spirit have enabled the Fjordhus Reivers U16 players to find they are not only competing with but surpassing their City rivals in performance.

“Huge team and individual player developments have decreased the margin between the long established Edinburgh sides of Watsonians, CALA and Inverleith and the Reivers junior players are widely becoming known as a force to be reckoned with.”

The U16s have spent little time training together as a team this season due to the number of other hockey sessions the girls attend. Young players from all Reivers ladies squads make up a team who are able to transfer the knowledge from those sessions and come together as a complete unit when combined.

“Much of the success of the U16 players must be attributed to Janet Jack who spends hours of training time each week on the pitch at Tweedbank coaching a number of the girls at Regional Performance, ASP and Senior Ladies 1sts level, added Bell.

“Under Jack’s guidance, mentoring and passion for player development, the level of hockey being played not only at Fjordhus Reivers but throughout the Borders Region is progressing rapidly and thriving.”
