Hillhead U16s 0-4 Fjordhus Reivers U16s

Playing in the first round of the Under 16s National Cup competition, Fjordhus Reivers opened their account with a solid performance and maximum points.

The match was played on a performance water-based pitch in Glasgow where the young Fjordhus contingent were able to display effective skills and passing play.

Reivers started the game with intent and were rewarded within the 1st minute with a penalty corner, Alex Bell was unlucky not to convert as the ball hit the post.

Dominating possession Reivers pressed hard on the Hillhead defence, Captain Caitlin Wright cutting laterally across the pitch time and time again to open up channels for Chloe Richardson and Bell. Aimee Martin was outstanding in right midfield cutting out any balls from the opposition to build the next attack.

The first goal came after five minutes from a Richardson cross behind the defensive line where A. Bell was waiting at the back post to score. Wright followed up with the second goal shortly after with an unstoppable strike at the top of the circle. Enjoying the majority of play, Reivers began to over carry the ball and run into contact resulting in needless turn-overs.

The second half was played with the same determination but much more composure. The ball was being passed fluidly across and up the pitch allowing the girls space and time on the ball. Richardson was impressive in the forward line using her pace to draw the defence and then run around strongly.

Two further goals were scored in quick succession from linking play between Martin, Wright and Richardson who found A. Bell at the back post to convert and claim her hat trick.

Solid defending performances from Danielle Walker, Emily Rogers, Emma Grieve and Shepherd allowed the attacking play to be carried out with confidence.

Reivers have significant depth within the U16 age group which enables players as young as 13 to play to their ability.

Hollie Shepherd, Emma Suddon, Emma Duncan, Laura Webster and Polly Bell all made their debuts for the U16 performance squad and showed early signs of promising decision making and work rate.

This was a convincing opening to the cup campaign and will give the Reivers players confidence for the next round.
