HAWICK & DISTRICT primary schools held their annual badminton competition at Hawick High School games hall recently.

Throughout the day play was hotly contested. Just under 20 youngsters entered the tournament with the majority coming from Drumlanrig Primary School who play under the supervision of Colin Blaikie.

The final of the girls’ competition was contested between Christy Anderson and Rachel Goldie. The first end was a close, nervous affair with Christy establishing a narrow lead from the start which she managed to maintain all the way through the game and went on to win the first end 21-19. In the second end Rachel had trouble coping with Christy’s deeper high serve and the latter went on to win the second end by the larger margin of 21-5.

The final of the boys’ competition was contested between Lewis Robertson and Ryan Johnston. In many ways this final was similar to the girls’ with Lewis using his serve to his advantage.

Despite Ryan’s best efforts Lewis managed to edge in front of his opponent in each end and went on to win 21-17, 21-14.

Drumlanrig took the team award. After the finals, Colin Blaikie gave the vote of thanks and Laura Turnbull presented the prizes.
