Hancock’s half-century helps out Gala 2nds

AN unbeaten 59 from Rory Hancock against Melrose secured Gala’s first victory in this season’s Reserve League.

In a match reduced to 30 overs because of the constant threat of rain, Melrose batted first but crawled to 19 for 4 from 14 overs. They eventually managed to reach 93 for 8, with youngster Liam Rutherford taking three wickets on his second XI debut.

In reply, Gala slumped to 2 for 2 after Craig Thomson and Kenny Paterson were both out cheaply.Ross Patterson and Hancock rebuilt the innings before Patterson was bowled by Ali Prabarkar for 23, but youngster Jack Halls joined Hancock to bring Gala home for a seven-wicket win.
