THE Aitken Turnbull Border League got off to a flying start last Sunday with an action-packed day at the Gytes in Peebles, during which no fewer than six league matches were played.
Seven teams play in the Under-13 league with 21 fixtures altogether, in a round-robin format. Four of the season’s U13 matches took place, with hosts Peebles playing twice and performing outstandingly to pull off two wins, by 30-2 over Hawick A and 35-0 over Berwickshire B.
There was victory also for Earlston’s Under-13 A team with a 19-0 win over Hawick B. Berwickshire A was delighted to snatch a win from Earlston B by 11-7 in the closest game of the day.
The Under-15 league is played in two pools with four teams in each. Two Pool B matches were played at the weekend with Peebles B showing class to win against Earlston’s A team by 30-7. Berwickshire A also tasted victory with a convincing 32-3 victory over Hawick B.
So, after the first league day, Peebles head the Under-13s league, having played one more game than the others.
In the Under-15s league after two matches in Pool B, Peebles B and Berwickshire A share the lead with a win apiece.
