FOLLOWING the final open event on the Border Athletics circuit at Morebattle on Saturday Graeme Lister of Kirkcaldy emerged the winner of the 2011 Senior Border Athletic League championship with a total of 24 points.
Rory Anderson of Hawick (22pts) was second and Colin Welsh of Kelso (21pts) third.
Hawick youngster Darcy Graham lifted the Border Athletic Youth award.
With five wins and two seconds to his credit, Darcy had 19 points on board. Ruaridh Britton of Moorfoot and Josh Abbot of Kelso were both on 14 points, Britton being placed second as he had more wins than Abbot.
Delighted Darcy said of his success: “When I started this season I didn’t think I would even win a race, never mind a championship. I am really thrilled to have won the championship as being Border Athletics Youth Champion means a lot to me.”
Local runners head for Whittingham Sports this weekend before ending their season at the inaugural Border Athletics Classic Meeting at Tweedbank on Sunday, August 28.
