IT has proved to be a tough start to the main tennis season for St Boswells’ men.
A last-gasp victory over Selkirk with just two rounds completed in the first league match was followed by two tough games against reigning champions Melrose I, in the Scottish Cup and then in the league.
And, it was Melrose who booked their place in the regional final of the Scottish Cup with victory over the Villagers on May Day.
In soaring temperatures the home side proved to be the stronger of the two teams, coming through with a 7-2 victory.
Just three days later the two teams met in the league, and although both fielded slightly stronger teams than in the cup, the result proved to be very similar.
As in the cup match, St Boswells took an early lead after the first round of matches, but it was downhill from then on for the Villagers, eventually going down 6.5-2.5.
