Girvan in jib debate

Reivers 2

GOALS from Scott Girvan and Andy Bell secured the Reivers’ second win over Falkirk in as many weeks.

Reivers enjoyed the lion’s share of possession early doors, but conceded a breakaway goal.

However, within five minutes the game was level once more.

The ball was driven hard into the circle, where Girvan, keen to look after his good looks, took evasive action which resulted in the ball being deflected into the top corner of the net.

The debate as to whether this was deliberate or not would continue late into the night.

The second half started in the same vein.

Despite Peter Cairns being yellow-carded, Reivers claimed the winning goal when the ball was driven in by Stuart Ramsay on the right, taken in by Graham Lofthouse, before the ball was fed onto Bell, who finished low.

A milestone was reached with Jamie Lamb making his second debut for the club 19 years after his first appearance.

Afterwards, Lofthouse said: “This was another good team effort, showing we need not fear anyone in this league when we play to our potential. The goals were well taken, although I’m not sure if Girvan was scoring or hiding when the ball hit his stick, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt.”

Reivers: S. Young, S. Ross, B. Montgomery, D. Johnston, S. Ramsay, J. Bure, G. Lofthouse, W. Dixon, A. Bell, S. Girvan, P. Cairns. Subs: S. Pitman, J. Lamb, J. Fletcher.

This weekend, the Reivers have another tough away assignment with a trip to face Alloa.
