LANGHOLM got off to a winning start in the Eden Valley Cricket League last Sunday when they travelled to Lanercost and passed the home total of 156 with five wickets remaining.
The home team opened the batting in miserable wet conditions on the artificial wicket. Opener Vievers (30) was caught by Andrew Paisley off the bowling of Duncan Elliott in the seventh over with the score on 36. Kennedy (11) went leg before wicket to Graham Park.
Asists and Neve (16) added 61 before the latter fell to a Park catch off Paisley. Asists was eventually caught by Andrew Bell from the bowling of Paisley after a good knock of 55. Halliday (25) held out for a while before being caught by Jason Hall off Park.
The 40 overs ended with Lanercost on 156 for 8.
Park was the best of the Langholm bowlers with 4 for 32.
Langholm lost opener Andy Bell (3) with the score on 10, but Ben Maxwell and Jason Hall (19) added 73 before the latter was caught by Crabtree.
Maxwell reached a fine 62 before being bowled by Halliday with the score 99 for 3. Duncan Elliott (8) and Park (13) were dismissed and Langholm were getting nervous on 121 for 5.
The score reached 155 with two overs left but John Bell (27) hit the winning runs for victory and Langholm finished on 157 for 5, with Steven Johnstone (3) also still at the wicket. In the home bowling, Halliday had 3 for 28.
