Eighty at eighty for enduring Jeremy

AT the AGM of the Borders branch of the Scottish Endurance Riding Club last Saturday, Jeremy Moon was presented with a special trophy to mark completing an 80km ride in his 80th year.

This achievement at the Fishwick ride last September was the culmination of months of training for man and horse in a year where riders had to contend with rain and mud at almost every event.

Riding his ex-polo pony Whinchat, Jeremy, who lives near Jedburgh with his wife Dorrit, raised nearly £2,000 for The Colonel’s Appeal of his old regiment, The Light Dragoons.

Members also enjoyed a talk by leading endurance rider Tricia Hirst, top-performing member of the British Team at last year’s World Endurance Championships. Super fit – she is also a marathon runner – Tricia trains her horses to be able to complete 160km at over 20km per hour and still pass the vetting fit and able to continue at the end.
