HAWICK’S Stuart Easton regained the lead in the British 600cc Supersport Championship at Donington Park in Leicestershire, writes John Mushet.
After closing the gap on championship leader Alistair Seeley to 22 points at the previous round, the Yamaha Mar Train rider was in a confident mood for the two races over the weekend.
His confidence paid off and in Saturday’s 12-lap race, Easton, who had qualified in pole position, battled for the lead from the start.
Seeley was well down the field, having crashed on the Friday, and the Teri took advantage to finish second behind Australian Billy McConnell, reducing the gap to only nine points.
From the start of Sunday’s longer 18-lap race, Easton again battled with McConnell and took the win by 1.8 seconds from Samsung Honda’s Jason O’Halloran with McConnell third and Seeley down in eighth.
With only three rounds left, the Hawick speedster is now firmly back in the running for the championship with an eight-point lead.
