Langholm beat Wigton III by an innings and 3 runs

LANGHOLM had a comfortable win in their Junior Cup quarter-final against Wigton thirds on the artificial pitch at the Castleholm, writes John Smith.

The match was over two innings of 20 overs each and Langholm made 100 in their opener, Graham Park high-scoring with a good knock of 32, followed by Gregor Park on 14.

Wigton were dismissed for 61 and forced to follow on.

Devastating home bowling from Graham Park and Steve Johnstone then had the visitors out for 36 and Langholm secured victory by an innings and three runs.

Edwards was the best of the visitors’ bowlers with 4 for 16.

Wigton lost three wickets for only five runs, with the bowling of Elliott and Andrew Paisley causing problems.

Percival (19) and Harrison (14) settled things before both were bowled by Jack Pool.

Wigton were all out in the 19th over for 61.

The visitors followed on, and 28 was added for the first wicket, then there was a total collapse.

Home bowlers Graham Park and Johnstone took nine wickets between them for only six runs and Wigton were out for 36.

Both teams deserve praise for getting the game played in the rather dismal wet weather.
