YORKSHIRE Tyke Lee Complin has been named as Berwick Bandits’ new club captain.
The announcement was made at Berwick Holiday Centre on Saturday night by team manager Ian Rae during the club’s successful pre-season dance, with hundreds of fans in attendance, enjoying the music of Sheffield band Riffler.
Complin, 26, who comes from Skipton, marked last season by winning the prestigious Bordernapolis event at Shielfield Park. He joined the club after the 2009 season, and was a popular choice to lead the team.
Also in attendance at the dance were three of his new teammates – Hynek Stichauer from the Czech Republic, Australian Kozza Smith and the young Hungarian Tamas Sike, who has been on the verge of breaking into the Bandits’ line-up for some time.
Club owner John Anderson, who was making his first official outing since undergoing cardiac surgery in the autumn, addressed supporters and promised improved facilities during the summer speedway season.
Anderson, whose North Berwick organisation supplied a sumptuous buffet for the dancers, has invested in a catering van which will be in attendance at all speedway events, a move which he hopes will benefit the club financially, as well as providing quality food for fans.
Following next Saturday night’s press and practice sessions, the Bandits swing into Shielfield action the following weekend, with a visit from all-conquering Newcastle Diamonds in the traditional Tyne-Tweed Trophy.
