Langholm beat Appleby III by four wickets


A GOOD batting display by Langholm at the Vicars Croft ground secured an impressive win in the 36th over.

Appleby made a brisk start and reached 20 in the first four overs.

The breakthrough came for Langholm when Savory (8) was caught by Euan Wilson. Eckersley joined Brackwell and they formed a fine partnership which carried the score to 174, before Brackwell was caught by Gregor Park in the 34th over after a superb innings of 107.

Westgarth was dismissed by Ashton-Smith in the last over after a good knock of 55.

The innings ended with Eckersley (22) and A. Little (3) still at the wicket with the score on 202. However, after a steady start, Langholm increased the tempo and reached 98 in 14 overs, before opener Ben Maxwell was caught by Macrae off Eckersley for 53.

Graham Park was bowled by P. Little after a fine innings of 43 and the score was 102 for 2.

It ticked along, but Gregor Park (15) was run out when going for a quick single. Andrew Bell (19) and Euan Wilson added another 38 before the former was caught by Smith. Then Wilson was caught by Westgarth after a useful 31.

Langholm needed 22 with five wickets remaining and 10 overs left. Steven Johnstone (4) was caught by Westgarth with the score on 191, but Geoff Maxwell (10) and Ashton-Smith (6) were still at the wicket when they passed the home total for victory with four overs remaining.
