Athletes from the Borders did themselves proud at the Birnam Highland Games.
There were superb Borders 1-2-3s in the two feature sprints (adults and youths Birnam Championships), in which all athletes started from scratch.
Ryan Houten of Cardrona took pride of place in the 100yds Open with a blistering time of 10.54 seconds, with Craig Gillan of TLJT in second and Connor Gillon of Kelso in third.
And in the Youth 100yds Open it was a TLJT 1-2-3, with Angus Bryce coming home in 11.61 seconds, followed by stablemates Laura Munro and Gary Goodfellow.
Ron Sutherland also enjoyed his day, winning the Veteran’s Handicap from his mark of 32m in 9.92 seconds, ahead of Falkirk athlete Walter Hunter, with Tommy Finkle finishing third.
Innerleithen’s Dean Whiteford (95m) managed second place in the 1,600m race – just behind Tullibody’s Sam Bates (425m).
In the Youths’ handicap races, TLJT’s Abby Munro and Jake Houten of Cardrona had a good battle in the various races.
Abby (32m) beat Jake (18m) in the 90m Youths, but these positions were reversed for the 200m Youths, Jake (41m) beating Abby (67m) into second place, with Angus Bryce (TLTJ 15m) coming in third.
Jake (150m) also took second place in the 800m Youths race, ahead of Kelso athlete Bailey Todd (80m), who also came third in the 1,600m race, from a mark of 160m.
