Black day at The Green in 20/20

CONTINUING their recent good 20-over form, Gala sailed to a 10-wicket victory over an under-strength St Boswells at The Green in the Borders Cup last week.

The hosts chose to bat first on a tricky pitch, and struggled to get more than a run an over for the first nine overs as Gala took control, taking wickets at regular intervals. Jamie Glover was first to go, trapped lbw when playing back to Grahame Ormiston. Richard Young was next to go, when he failed to beat a throw from Ormiston and was run out.

Kris Mein was now in the attack and took three for three off his four overs. Kathryn White drove straight back to the bowler, then Alasdair McIlroy played on and Craig Wilson lost his leg stump.

Bryan Potter, and then Rory Elms at last showed some aggression but both fell to Neil Crooks, caught trying to hit over the top. Crooks also had Elliot Ruthven stumped by Duncan Millar but a good effort from Gavin Deans and Greg Lane took the home side over the half-century at the end off their 20 overs.

In reply Josh Irvine and Andrew McMenemy made a cautious start, but as they grew accustomed to the pitch, they gradually became more aggressive and saw Gala home, without loss, in the 13th over. Irvine finished on 23 and McMenemy on 26.
