The Borders U12 badminton team travelled to Tyneside Badminton Centre, Newcastle to play in the annual Anglo-Scottish Invitational Tournament.
Yorkshire won the tournament with Lothian runners up and Lanarkshire in third place.
Over two days of competition, the Borders played teams from five other regions in Scotland and England. The young Borders team played brilliantly throughout the weekend, winning three out of the five matches, and ended the tournament in fifth place overall. The team was unlucky not to finish fourth when they lost 8-7 to Cumbria in the final deciding set of the boys doubles game.
Although the Borders team consisted of a very young, inexperienced group of players, all of the players equated themselves really well, not only did the players gain valuable experience in a competitive arena, learning to play as a team, they also had lots of enjoyment and gained new friendships.
Coaches Dave Burns and Harry Turnbull would like to thank Audrey Rae and Rachel Crowe for their help and support at this event. Thanks also to all the parents and other family members who turned up to voice their support. Well done to all the players for all their hard work, effort and exceptional behaviour both on the court and off over the two days of competition. The players gave it their all over the two days of competition and did the Borders proud.
