THE summer season came to an end with a flourish as John Heath won the DD Davidson shootout for the 2011 competition winners.

The highlight of his round was an ace at the sixth hole and this proved to be vital as he pipped Simon Milburn by one shot.

A week earlier, Bruce Currie, Stewart Beaumont, Brian Learmonth and Dougie King won the closing Texas Scramble by two clear shots.

The Winter League begins next week – fixtures on the noticeboard.

CRAIG Howie finished in fifth spot in the Junior Champion of Champions at St Andrews last Sunday.

The 17-year-old Peebles member, who tied for first in the Faldo Junior Series Scottish Qualifier in June, scored a level par 71 on The Duke’s Course, beating Eamon Bradley from Mount Ellen on a better inward half.

Blairgowrie’s Bradley Neil carded a four-under-par 67 to claim a one-shot win.

An elite field of Scotland’s 2011 junior county and area winners gathered for the end-of-season contest, with 42 boys and 16 girls teed-up at St Andrews.
