Action this week saw the men entertain Abbeyview at the Tweedbank stadium.

With Alloa already certain to win the league the match was more significant for the visitors who were still in danger of relegation.

Proceedings started off on an even keel and with the first five ends completed the teams were locked together at 16 shots each. However, after 10 ends the hosts had gained a small advantage, leading by 36-31.

The result of the match was really decided in the next few ends as Tweedbank began to extend their lead.

In the remaining ends Abbeyview tried hard to come back, but although the Borderers could not extend the lead further it was enough to ensure victory for the home team.

This win keeps Tweedbank well placed in the league, although a win for Balbardie meant that Tweedbank dropped to third place on shot difference only.

The last league game is against Balbardie at home and a win will mean that Tweedbank will finish in second place overall. On the same date Abbeyview will meet Portobello to decide which of the two teams will be relegated.

While the men were in action at Tweedbank, the ladies travelled to play neighbours Teviotdale. On this occasion a very close encounter ended with a narrow victory for the Hawick-based team by 84-81.

On Sunday Scottish trials took place for the ladies’ and gents’ teams and Tweedbank had a representative in both. For the gents, Kenny Johnstone had a deserved trial at Midlothian, while Marie Todd was at Falkirk for the ladies’ trial. This was a great achievement for both players, although neither were able to make the team.

On Saturday, the play-downs for the triples category for both ladies and gents take place at Bainfield.
