TWEEDBANK seniors hosted a team from Portobello for the first leg of the annual Portotweed Cup.
The Edinburgh side ran out 93-78 winners, but with a second leg still to come on March 23 there is still much to play for.
Scores (Tweedbank skips first): Hugh Clifton 21 J. Laing 9; Jimmy Redpath 15 A. Walker 25; Mel Blyth 9 R. Douglas 25; Rob Fulton 17 B. Smith 19; Danny McLean 16 G. Gray 15.
Saturday saw the men travel to East Fife for the first round of the Scottish Cup where they faced a team from Garioch.
The first five ends produced a surprising result on paper with Tweedbank already well ahead 26-9 and all four rinks in front.
Garioch made a little headway, but it was far too late and Tweedbank finally won 87-60.
Scores (Tweedbank scorer first): Ian Crawford (T) 24 J. Harper 12; Stuart White 27 K. Harper 8; Neil McNally 16 L. Collins 21; Kenny Johnstone 20 A. Rough 19.
The second round is on Saturday, March 12, when the opponents will be Stonehaven, the venue being the Headwell Stadium in Dunfermline.
This Saturday sees the play-offs in the fours section and Tweedbank will be playing at Meadowmill in Tranent at 9.30am, while the ladies have a bye and will play at the same venue at 2pm.
The Tweedbank members are reminded that the Eddie Johnstone triples is on Sunday, March 13, and a good turnout is hoped for.
For the ladies, more entries are required for the Nan Wintrup two bowl pairs, otherwise this event will be cancelled. The list is on the ladies’ noticeboard and entries should be made within the next few days.
