Julie keeps calm to record superb double victory

TEVIOTDALE S Julie Forrest topped off an amazing week on Friday when she won the R J Hall Scottish Masters bowls tournament in Glasgow s Kelvin Hall.

TEVIOTDALE S Julie Forrest topped off an amazing week on Friday when she won the R J Hall Scottish Masters bowls tournament in Glasgow s Kelvin Hall.

Earlier on in the week Julie, who works at Barrie Knitwear Ltd in Hawick, lifted the Scottish Open title at the same venue.

Julie told the Southern: "I was very excited but I knew I would be able to do it if I kept calm."

Leading from the first end she beat England s Cheryl Northall 10-2, 10-5.

Julie restricted the Devon player to just one count in the opening set, a sixth end double and then when leading 6-5 after seven ends of the second set picked up a single and a three to take the set 10-5 to consolidate her win. She commented: "Going into the second end ahead settled me and I knew Cheryl was under pressure."

Darren Burnett, from Arbroath, lifted the men s title beating Welsh champion Mike Prosser.
