Weekend football preview

KELSO UNITED are involved in East of Scotland Qualifying Cup action on Saturday, taking on Premier Division outfit Lothian Thistle/Hutchison Vale at Woodside Park, writes John Slorance.

United manager Prof Blaikie told The Southern: “We are in a tough section, but have done well and are in with a chance of qualifying.

“Apart from our last match against Duns, we have been doing alright and I am putting that game down to being just one of those days. Lothian are a Premier side and will be favourites, but we are at home and won’t be making it comfortable for them.”

Kelso are without suspended goalkeeper Elliot Turnbull and Grant Gass.

In the same competition, Peebles Rovers square up against Coldstream. The match was scheduled for Whitestone Park, but should the pitch be unplayable, plans have been made to switch the tie to an East of Scotland 3G venue.

Bottom-of-the-table Hawick Royal Albert are without the suspended Sean Loughlin for their home First Division encounter with Eyemouth United.

In the Lowland League, Gala Fairydean Rovers clash with Edinburgh City at Meadowbank Stadium. Gala have Craig McBride suspended.

Vale of Leithen entertain Dalbeattie Star at Victoria Park.
