Waverley score the odd goal in seven

Hearts of Liddesdale 3

Hawick Waverley 4

IN WHAT turned out to be a free-scoring encounter, Waverley drew first blood when Liam Lavery turned home a cross from Scott Craig. Hearts hit back to equalise with a penalty after Ian Turnbull had handled in the box.

The men from Liddesdale then took the lead, but Craig put Waverley on a level pegging before the interval.

Following the changeover, Hearts went ahead for the second time. Waverley took this in their stride, however, and Ross Wallace notched an equaliser by thundering home a shot from close range.

Five minutes from time, Waverley grabbed what was to be the winner. After taking on his marker, Andrew Maltman whipped a low cross over the face of the goalmouth and in attempting to clear the danger, a Hearts defender turned the ball into his own net.
