Waverley line up third-round match after battle

Hawick Waverley 3

Greeenlaw 2

WAVERLEY marched into the next round of the South of Scotland Cup and a clash with old rivals Hawick United through a merited win.

In what turned out to be a hard-fought encounter, Greenlaw took an early lead.

Within minutes, however, Dean McColm put Waverley on level terms following good play by Scott Craig.

Greenlaw then edged ahead again before the break, but Waverley came rallying back and equalised after the changeover. Aiden Reilly emerged the Hawick marksman, driving home a shot on meeting a rebound after his first effort had cannoned off a Greenlaw defender.

With 10 minutes of the match remaining, Waverley notched what was to be the winner. On meeting a Taylor Hope cross, Mark Deans laid the ball towards Ross Wallace, who found the net with a header.

In the closing stages, Waverley were reduced to 10 men when Ryan Stewart was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
