Victoria pitch in to win

THE Vics take to the road tomorrow looking to consolidate their lofty league position with a win over Hawick Legion (2.30pm k.o.).

Playing Jed Legion last week, a goal in each half, from Tony Craggs and Ross Purves, saw Selkirk’s amateurs go joint top with Hawick United.

A superb day for the Yarrow Park men was topped off by the return of Vics striker Darren Munro who joined the fray with 10 minutes to go, 17 months after sustaining a broken leg in the 2011 Collie Cup Final.

The game was moved to Ancrum, with Jed’s pitch still suffering the affects of recent flooding, and it was Selkirk who created the early chances.

A searing run from the middle of the park, followed by a great strike from 20 yards, allowed Craggs to grab the opener on 25 minutes.

Steven Sharkey’s cross from the right caused panic in the Jed box on the hour mark and the ball fell to Purves who scrambled it into the bottom corner from close range.

William Mercer’s direct play caused problems for Jed in the second half and he almost made it three for the Vics, but failed to beat the keeper when he was through on goal.
