Vics stay strong in promotion push

Peebles Rovers Reserves 2

Selkirk Victoria 3

A Garry McShane free kick maintained Selkirk Victoria’s march towards promotion.

The home side took the lead after five minutes. After some neat play on the left wing the ball was cut back and smashed into the top corner from the edge of the box by Mark Blaik.

Selkirk equalised almost instantly. Ryan Pritchard’s long free kick was headed in at the back post by centre half Grant Brownlee.

But Peebles were in front again on 15 minutes after another good finish, this time from Stephen Murray, from the edge of the box.

Five minutes later, Victoria were level again. David Deans was bundled over in the box from Ranald Wilkie’s free kick and Darren Munro stepped up to slot the penalty home to the keeper’s right.

Selkirk got the crucial third goal on 65 minutes. William Mercer sprinted clean through on goal, but was hacked down by Peebles centre half Tiff Robertson, leaving the referee with no option but to send the player off.

From the resultant free kick, McShane drilled the ball into the roof of the net from 20 yards out.
